Washing machines and tumble dryers are of few appliances we can't live without nowadays.
They are big and often not great to look at. Although minor upgrade is design is available the humble washing machines will not be something we will admire and showcase in our homes.
Therefore designers have been focusing on make the laundry space more appealing by creating doors for integrated machines or a cupboard that would host the freestanding ones.
One of the solutions would be a tambour. By using either alternating solid and perforated slats, or just perforated slats, good ventilation is ensured even when the tambour door is closed.
Other solutions would be using a door on an integrated appliance or to allow an open space under a worktop with a beautifully designed furniture around it. Below, to the right, is an example of an open space for the washing machine. Peninsula, designed and made by Christopher Howard, devises the space and offers additional work surface with storage underneath.
